a detailed compairson of different packages being offered by ISPs through out Pakistan for Broadband and DSL services

I came across this very informative and comprehensive list of DSL and Broadband packages being offered in Pakistan, These cover a broad region of cities in Pakistan including Lahore, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Karachi Quetta and Peshawar.

I have limited the bandwidth brackets to the most popular ones you can go to the websites of the ISP to get in depth details of all the packages being offered by them. some are offering packages of 128 k (not included in table) where as there are ISPs which are offering combination of different caps at lower prices.

Specially COMSATS have packages for broadband and DSL different for cities like Abbotabad, Sialkot, Peshawar and Islamabad, And they have some very pricey packages for unlimited bandwidth and dedicated bandwidth.

For all of these Providers you will have to check for availability of their service in your area, most of these provide this information on their websites but it has to be really searched. If you need some detailed info let me know in comments and I will try to pull it out for you.

Most widely available service is obviously being offered by PTCL because of their large coverage area and existing infrastructure, where as most ISPs are mostly limited to urban cities. Wimax based ISPs like Wateen and Mobilink infinity will probably spread to rural areas with wireless coverage.

There are also EVDO services launched by Worldcall and recently PTCL but they are more suited to mobile users. Will be covering about them soon till then use the reference below to suit your budget

Review and detailed comparison of gprs and mobile internet services being offered by different Telecom operators.

Here is our first post. after searching through numerous portals and websites even of the the telecom operators them selves i realized that its currently extremely difficult to exactly get the idea of what are the gprs/internet rates across various cell phone operators in Pakistan.

Though PTA has done a commendable job of making all the tariffs for voice available here. but there is still no data i could find for listing down the rates of GPRS and internet being provided by different cell phone or mobile companies.

So following is a consolidation of the data gathered from their own websites in hope that this is useful for people out there. Please note these rates are listed without taxes and are being reported directly from information gathered on the mobile phone company website.

Hit the link for detailed rates.

Ufone

GPRS / Mobile internet rates and packages for UFone are listed here. There is not a lot of flexibility in terms of packages as you can see but for post paid customers the no cap limit on the unlimited package can be a very good attraction. The no subscription rate of Rs 15 per MB is identical to most other service providers packages.

Mobilink

GPRS / Mobile internet rates and packages for Mobilink are listed here. Mobilink’s non subscription package is by far the most expensive charging about 18 Rs per MB. How ever their unlimited package is again has no cap which is of attraction to corporate and post paid users.

Warid

GPRS / Mobile internet rates and packages for Warid Telecom are listed here. Warid offers by far the most packages for GPRS and mobile internet starting from Rs 80 per month to 240 for limited packages. The down side of Warid’s infinity package is the 2gb cap which though enough for users might scare some away.

Telenor

GPRS / Mobile internet rates and packages for Telenor Pakistan are listed here. There are only 2 packages besides the standard 15Mb no subscription rate for Telenor. The subscription package of telenor have very low bandwidth allowance. only 0.15 for the 500 package where Ufone Mobilink offers unlimited at the same price and Warid allows 2 GB in the same price. To compensate for this low bandwidth they have another package but it has the highest monthly subscription fees of Rs 1000.

Zong

GPRS / Mobile internet rates and packages for ZONG are listed here. Zong has the chepest rates for GPRS usage with a non subscription mode only costing about 10 Rs and the unlimited one a lowly of Rs 400 per month.

Conclusion….

Rate wise Zong appears to be the most cheap one. But we need to keep in mind that coverage also matters for people making this decision as because of low rate and high speed of broadband now mobility is a very major factor for customers wanting to go on full throttle on GPRS. Similarly quality of service and speed needs to be taken in account.

We will be following this post with speed comparison of gprs on different operators stay tuned ….
