Finally after waiting for Eternity Wi-Tribe has been officially launched,

As we noticed in morning that they were offering free 7 days trial

http://review.com.pk/2009/05/wi-tribe-launching/

I had thought it would take another few weeks but boy was I wrong.

Keep reading for a detailed review of the service

Outstanding Customer Service

I was pleasantly shocked by the speed of their delivery and their customer service.

After requesting a sign up on their website, I received a call in less than 10 minutes (yes this is not a typo ) on my cell phone, regarding my interest in the service. I definitely was interested to try out specially because of the free offer, so I asked how soon can they install at my place and her answer was 30 minutes, I said ok (thinking that the sales person on the other end is being over enthusiastic due to launch), I did ask what would be the documentation requirements which were just a copy of NIC which i asked my wife at home to keep handy just in case (I was in office).

Before the said 30 minutes had expired I received a call from home that they are their and have installed the device and tested it, and would need 1700(Monthly Charges for 1 MB ) + 999 (Installation Charges) up front. Upon my inquiry I was told that the free offer is for 7 days money back (This includes weekends so be careful), so if I am not satisfied I could return the device with a call (they would come pick it up and return the money),
I decided to take the red pill and find out how deep the rabbit hole is :)

But in short in 40 minutes without getting up from my seat i had working internet at my home I was really impressed, full marks for customer service.

Sleek device

The packaging is excellent unlike wateen’s which only have motorola written on the box, these guys have taken time to spread out their brand on the box packaging

IMG00056

The package contents were this most beautiful looking wimax device I have yet came across, and manuals and cables.

IMG00057

The front was powered up by green LEDs which added to the sleekness of the device, these blinked while looking for connection and stabilized, I was lucky to get full five bars of signal

IMG00059

Back of device had one LAN port and two ports for telephone

IMG00061

For the more techy ones the device is Motorola CPEi 35750.

Download Speed as Promised Upload …

Internet speed was ok not exceptional the download was good around 1.2 MB, but the upload was only about 0.2 MB when compared to servers in Islamabd

image

the result was more or less same for servers in California

image

Upload speed is below par.

Tariff Most Expensive around

Their tarrif which is

image

is on the higher side, as comparatively Wateen is offering a 15 GB Cap for a 1 MB connection for only 1,599 Rupees for same package of 10 GB Cap at 1MB Wateen is asking for only 1,199 which is what these guys want to charge for the 512 Kbps package while limiting the download at 8 GB.

And this is just the Wimax if you start considering the prices of LinkDotNet and PTCL Broadband with the fact that they offer unlimited downloads then these guys don’t even stand a chance.

Will they turn around and offer competitive packages we could wait and see.

But the Wimax Battle is heating up :)

    Hi,

Thanks for sharing your experience, at least thanks to you I can see what the device looks like. Did you asked them why upload is so slow ? Seems to me a set up of early days ISP’s who could not think any one would need their dial-up for up-loading :-) .

About service of Wi-Tribe either you are extremely Lucky person or it is some thing to do with sales set-up in Islamabad only. My experience is rather quite opposite of what you encountered.

    1. Upon reading the news long before Launch there was only one email address for contact , I wrote on that and mail bounced. NO! address was correct but some security implementation whereby not accepting mail from unknown :-) . NO I did not sent Html mail, it was pure text.

    2. Reported that incident at their site on-line [ Bahrain ] with request to forward same. I have not heard any ack neither from Bahrain nor from Pakistan.

    3. When they launched then I applied on-line. No reply till todate i.e. 12th May 2009. I did thought of visiting their office but just got busy.

What is beyond me, why can’t companies fire one fat Executive with fancy title and hire a bunch of really good secretaries who can filter / attend to the mail. Why pay for some stupid virus scanner which will shut out real clients / sales leads also.

I was thinking of using them as back-up for Worldcall [ Infinity does not work in H Block North Nazimabad, Karachi, No signal :) ) ] but seeing their attention to a potential client before sign-up I would be better of with PTCL.

Good luck with Wi-Tribe, may your Tribe prosper.

    Tariq,

Can you share your contact information? Email or phone will do. Your problem seems to have cost wi-tribe a potential triber and that can’t go amiss.

    Thanks.

@ Tariq, my experience from customer services was very good, and this is the same thing i heard from other people. Lets see if it keeps up the standard

So far, Wi-Tribe looks like it is targeted towards a younger market and not for SME or corporate use…the colourful presentation may attract younger customers, but how long is that strategy going to last? Giants like LDN in the market draw their core revenue from corporate & SME deals, alongwith providing various consumer oriented packages with hefty discounts and no data limit. In comparison, Wi-Tribe’s tariff seems quite high! I have signed up for a free trial even though I am an LDN user…let’s see how it goes. Furthermore…what does Wi-Tribe has up its sleeve that Wateen didn’t? Point to ponder! ;P

Hi, my experience if quite opposite. after the news that they have launched, i called their help line. Firstly i couldnt get through then after few attempts the line was picked up by some girl named as huma (though i know that they use fake names). Miss huma was quite curtious and noted my 1Mbps package order but she couldnt indentify the residence area in lahore to identify if witribe is offering the service. Anyways after linking few major area near my small colony she agreed that the service is avaible and my order was booked and sales call intitated and as per customer services, i was suppose to get a call within next 24hrs. Now after 24 hrs (next day) i had to call the uan number agian to remind them and they were quite apologetic and agian my query was noted though my previous query was already in their record. Anyways i agian waited for 24hrs but no call. Thrid day ( in frustration with a decsion to not to get the connection) i called agian to show the staff my frustration and for order cancellation. This time someone named Kamran ( acting as sr staff) handled my call very professionaly and it seemed that all my problems will be take care off but still two weeks have passed and no call from them. How so unprofessional specially when companies like Wateen, PTCL, Mobilink are into such business. I wonder that how they will catch up. WiMax on the other hand is not a big deal as far when in come to installation. its just a matter of small visit by their tech people to check signal strenght in your area and the device is plug and play.. thanks to companies such as motorolla, alcatel etc that have made such devices.. but no thanks to witribe on such attitude and un professional approah..

hey i had a similar experience with this company. i’m a new user of wimax technology so i don’t know much about the usage, but as a customer i reserve the right to ask questions, right? after making me wait for about ten days the cs staff informed me that i will finally get my connection…only to be told that i will have to pay and have no free trial first. i told them no thank you!

Aoa, Qazi i am using wateen from last six months almost i have no other issue except the speed, i got 1MB 10GB package but download speed i m getting is just arnd 60Kbps, as now i got the options wi-tribe wht exact downloading speed you got …… please not wht speedtest shows.

  • 22 May, 2009, 22:28

The more healthy competition there is, the better it is for the consumers. I’m a satisfied user of PTCL broadband and get d/l speeds of 100KBps+ on my 1Mbps package. Can’t complain really.

Raza, good to hear about PTCL, I have heard its th ebest around but if you get stuck with a service issue then only your lucky stars could get you out

    hi ehtisham

i am using 512 witribe with constant d/l speed of 65-70kbps or more…ptcl is better where ur house is on fiber or close to exchange , i didnt have it , and tried wateen at my place but its 1 mb was simply pathtic…so far good marks to witribe

    10 June, 2009, 0:35

David, if you are constantly getting 65-70 kbps for a 512 kps package, then it is not good. I have Wateen’s 512k package and I get 512k during day time and around 100k during peak hours at night which is BETTER than wi-tribe. Looks like wi-tribe has low capacity. That’s why they can’t give good speeds to their customers.

  • 10 June, 2009, 23:29

I am using free wi-tribe as a beta user, and i m amazed with their constant speed. They provide a 2MB connection within 30 mins of calling their sales executive for my area i.e. north nazimabad, Karachi. He came, activated the device from his laptop, and bingo, Internet is ready.

But unfortunately after using it for 2 months finally they shut down free service. But before doing that, they offered me (n every beta tester) to opt for holding device without paying the initial cost around 4K. It was an impressive offer, but due to their high rates, i m planning to get 2mb ptcl dsl connection. I will get a discounted package as my bro is in Karachi University which entitled him to claiom 30% off. i.e Rs. 1400 for 2MB.

Wi tribe is offering 1mb for 1700 with 10 gb limit, which i can consume in 3 days. So Wi tribe should have to bring down their expensive rates to max 1500 pm with 2mb and unlimited download usage, otherwise, as far as i know, no beta tester opted for holding wi tribe.

My download speed on idm was constantly 290KB/s. I wish i could upload those images captured by speed test.net for u people.

I was told that they are planning to lower their rates in next 3 months, but the damn limit of 10GB sucks!

  • 11 June, 2009, 13:21

@CA Freak, yes the speed is amazing but i also had to return it due to their caps and a little higher packages

  • 12 June, 2009, 11:22

Any other beta user, post ur comments, and also current ptcl users, plz recommend whether i choose ptcl or go for multinet or mobilink infinity?

    Hello

    Hi,
@anon, Thanks! I have registered on line and one of my friend also filled on-line form, no luck for him either. At least now I know that I am not alone :) . Sorry for delay in responding, only today after hearing his tale I thought of check the blog. If wi-tribe wants business then they have contacts with them, if they can not find me now what will happen if I have some issue? Let them fix there support system.

@ Qazi Atiq . I do not say every one had same experience, some are lucky. My point being Wi Tribe certainly lacks Professional Quality and my problems are due to that nothing else. Look at comments by @CA Freak at time he was enjoying FREE service Wi Tribe was not bothered to respond from some one who was willing to Pay. Now that Honeymoon is over still Wi-Tribe sales team not getting back to work.

I am existing client / regular user of Max Com, Mobilink Infinity and World Call, in past used Gerry’s DSL and PTCL DSL . Except for events like Up_Link connection down service is of Fair quality including customer support. Gave up Gerry because their Package was expensive and PTCL offered much better rate. Gave Up PTCL for Max Com due to PTCL Network problems, can not think of any thing bad about their customer support. Very helpful in fact it was a bit of surprise for me.

Wi Tribe is more like Govt of Pakistan, if you have links then you get any thing, if you are a tax payer [ read paying client ] then it is your luck.

    Have a nice day!

i am a proud user of PTCL broadband for the last one year. their service is very good in Islamabad with no major problems faced for the last one year. i get a constant speed of over 300kb for my 2 MB connection. They recently had a glitch in their systems that allowed me to download at speeds of 800 kb for almost 1 month. i really loved that and would also recommend PTCL for their speed and quality of service. although slow to install the DSL but after that i never had any major issues.

  • 11 July, 2009, 20:30

Hey Tariq, well its true i got free witribe by some sources, but there are lots of people doing that at that time.

However, i want to tell that after returning CPE, i choose ptcl broadband to try, so i applyied and got connected in 10 days. i used it for 15 days, after that disaster started. I m not connected to net 4 last 7 days on ptcl dsl, it really sucks. i have atleast 60 min conversation with 1218 people in that 7 days and 6 personal visits to my exchange, including paying 100 to line man to check whether its a fault of my ;line.

    PTCL sucks (till now)

  • 26 July, 2009, 9:46

Hay guys, I came to this site just to choose one good isp provider for me but it seems that every one is in trouble. It seems to me like hospital where every one is suffering from disease. I also know about good service of PTCL and poor customer support. I am also aware of the good services as well as good customer support of Micronet and NayaTel. About witribe, i just know that they are costly but on the other side they are wireless but accroding to you all they dont have good support. so i think i should not think of dsl any more. Thank you all :)

Well I am using Maxcom 2MB Package for Rs. 1800 / month Only with no Data Caping. Their Service, Speeds and Customer Service all Excellent more than one can ever experience. yet I am planning to switch to Wi-Tribe for ease of mobility and occasional hiccups due to PTCL landline for ADSL of Maxcom. As You Know PTCL *&^&*())(^&$ Will Never Change, No Matter How much it is privatized but the lower and upper staff and management are old haraamkhor addicts so they will never change unless killed :P

I paid a visit on this forum to see how is wi-tribe before I get Maxcom disconnected and get Witribe. The Previous posts have made me come to conclusion that in Some places Wateen is Good and Wi-tribe is bad and in some places Witribe working good and wateen sucking like a B*** :) Probably its the matter of Area you are using it in.

I do agree that Wi-tribe is charging too high for low volumes with lower Caps, Their Data Cap seems to be one like a Nehru Cap, too Narrow for a Pakistani to fit his head in :D They Shall better Try a Jinnah Cap with more space :P

mostly people are waiting for unlimited internet from wi tribe

    18 December, 2009, 13:05

Now I have switched to Wi-tribe finally and using it Since December 1 2009. Although first three days were a Nightmare as the Service could hardly get me to browse but as their Technical Staff Explained it was a Temporary issue and systems were under maintenance. It was my hard luck to get in when maintenance was underway. However the Customer Support Personnel Responded Well In time and stayed connected with me until the problem was resolved and that was a sigh of relief.

Now the Service is going fine although not as good as expected yet not all that bad. I do have difficulty in making up my mind on a downgrade from 2MB maxcom to 1MB wi-Tribe and from Unlimited to limited downloads :(

Wi-Tribe Does Give hard time few times a day but that hard time is for a few minutes only when it Surprisingly Says [Tcp-Connection Error, Server is either Shut down or too busy to respond your request]. I Hope they will resolve this issue soon. One thing better than Wateen is that If you buy Wateen and are not satisfied then to hell with you , who cares, While Wi-Tribe First Sends a Sales Rep at your site who checks if signals are not working they wont sell it to you and still it gives you a benefit of 7 days trial period, wherein if not satisfied you may get cashback on returning their device.

Another Bad aspect of Wi-Tribe is that they are not Providing Pop Mail Account as the Other DSL / ADSL providers do provide a sufficiently enough quota of 1GB (min) Mail Account. :(

Four Things Wi-Tribe Has to Work On:

    1. Resolve this TCp- Connection Error issue :(
    2. Provide Pop Mail Accounts with sufficient inbox space and attachment allowance.
    3. Either Provide Unlimited accounts or increase the Download Limits
    4. Shall Also Provide Connections upto 2MB

When the Above is done it will be a Dream ComeTrue for Witribians :P

Although they have reduced their tariff but the customer service is pathetic…especially during downtime, they do not bother to pick up the phone.

So before you make the purchase decision, check their hopeless call center by dialing in and opting for customers area. or you will waste your time utilizing the money back guarantee.

Wi-tribe 512k Economical Package speed is very very slow , Even if you live near booster and have good signals. and i can’t watch youtube clips smoothly. Also helpline and sales number 111 187 423 is Always busy busy busy busy even if you want to contact with there sales department ;) , they mention 7gb monthly limit on website tarrif but its actually only 5gb a month. so its another lie. To avoid negative comments please improve your service and give more limit in packages.

I have been using Wi-Tribe for 6 months.
My start was good as i called the sales number, They just asked the address and said we will call you in like 10 minutes.
It wasn’t even a minute, i got a call and the salesman said to keep a copy of NIC which i did and i will be there in an hour. Well, it wasn’t exactly an hour but like 45 minutes and he came. Tested the signal strength from his laptop and poop goes the connection to me.
In the 1st month, i had only one issue which was http://www.gmail.com would never open. After lodging a complaint, the following month it got fixed.
In the day it’s like 120-150kbps (kilo bytes per second) for 1mb (actually 1024 kilobits which equals 100kilo bytes per second. Know the conversions!!!!!!!
At night the speed stinks goes below 70kbps !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Whatever one says. Wi-Tribe has two things that cannot be compared:
    1) Service
    2) Quality
That’s all for my 1st six months.
    Still waiting for 2mb package
