GPRS Prices in Pakistan

This item was filled under [ Rates ]

Here is our first post. after  searching through numerous portals and websites even of the the telecom operators them selves i realized that its currently extremely difficult to exactly get the idea of what are the gprs/internet rates across various cell phone operators in Pakistan.

Though PTA has done a commendable job of making all the tariffs for voice available here. but there is still no data i could find for listing down the rates of GPRS and internet being provided by different cell phone or mobile companies.

So following is a consolidation of the data gathered from their own websites in hope that this is useful for people out there. Please note these rates are listed without taxes and are being reported directly from information gathered on the mobile phone company website.

Hit the link for detailed rates.

Ufone

GPRS / Mobile internet rates and packages for UFone are listed here. There is not a lot of flexibility in terms of packages as you can see but for post paid customers the no cap limit on the unlimited package can be a very good attraction. The no subscription rate of Rs 15 per MB is identical to most other service providers packages.

Package Name Subscription Charges (Per Month) Free volume Cost per MB Conn Type
1 N/A N/A Rs 15.00 PrePaid
2 UrEDGE 5 Rs 50 (for 15 Days) 5 MB Rs 10.00 PrePaid
3 UrEDGE 30 Rs 150 30 MB Rs 5.00 PrePaid
4 UrEDGE Unlimited Rs 500 1.5 GB Rs 0.33 PrePaid
5 UrEDGE Unlimited Rs 500 Unlimited N/A PostPaid

Mobilink

GPRS / Mobile internet rates and packages for Mobilink are listed here. Mobilink’s non subscription package is by far the most expensive charging about 18 Rs per MB. How ever their unlimited package is again has no cap which is of attraction to corporate and post paid users.

Package Name Subscription Charges (Per Month) Free Volume Cost per MB Voice Package Type
1 N/A N/A Rs 18.00 PrePaid
2 GPRS 2 Rs 500 Unlimited N/A PostPaid
3 GPRS 2 Rs 125 5 MB Rs 10.00 PostPaid
4 GPRS 3 N/A N/A Rs 18.00 PostPaid

Warid

GPRS / Mobile internet rates and packages for Warid Telecom are listed here. Warid offers by far the most packages for GPRS and mobile internet starting from Rs 80 per month to 240 for limited packages. The down side of Warid’s infinity package is the 2gb cap which though enough for users might scare some away.

Package Name Subscription Charges (Per Month) Free Volume Cost per MB Voice Package Type
1 N/A N/A Rs 16.00 PrePaid
2 GPRS 80 Rs 80 6 MB Rs 12.00 PostPaid
3 GPRS 120 Rs 120 15 MB Rs 10.00 PostPaid
4 GPRS 200 Rs 200 20 MB Rs 8.00 PostPaid
5 GPRS 240 Rs 240 30 MB Rs 6.00 PostPaid
6 GPRS Infinity Rs 500 2 GB Rs 0.20 PostPaid

Telenor

GPRS / Mobile internet rates and packages for Telenor Pakistan are listed here. There are only 2 packages besides the standard 15Mb no subscription rate for Telenor. The subscription package of telenor have very low bandwidth allowance. only 0.15 for the 500 package where Ufone Mobilink offers unlimited at the same price and Warid allows 2 GB in the same price. To compensate for this low bandwidth they have another package but it has the highest monthly subscription fees of Rs 1000.

Package Name Subscription Charges (Per Month) Free Volume Cost Per MB Voice Package Type
1 N/A N/A Rs 15.00 PrePaid
2 Data 4 Times Rs 500 0.15 GB (153.6 MB) Rs 5.00 PostPaid
3 Data 3 Express Rs 1000 1.5 GB Rs 10.00 PostPaid

Zong

GPRS / Mobile internet rates and packages for ZONG are listed here.  Zong has the chepest rates for GPRS usage with a non subscription mode only costing about 10 Rs and the unlimited one a lowly of Rs 400 per month.

Package Name Subscription Charges (Per Month) Free Volume Cost Per MB Voice Package Type
1 ZONG Unlimited Rs 400 Unlimited N/A Any
2 Zong Free N/A N/A Rs 10.00 Any

Conclusion….

Rate wise Zong appears to be the most cheap one. But we need to keep in mind that coverage also matters for people making this decision as because of low rate and high speed of broadband now mobility is a very major factor for customers wanting to go on full throttle on GPRS. Similarly quality of service and speed needs to be taken in account.

We will be following this post with speed comparison of gprs on different operators stay tuned ….

@Kamil      Hi,,I am Planning to send a 3G Phone back to Pakistan with Fring installed on it so that i can talk to them free on FRING. Please guide me which GPRS package will be good for FAISALABAD as i m i n UK so dun know abt PAK….I m Planning to get ZONG Unlimited one..is it for mobile or pc internet?,,,, Thanks

  • 5 November, 2009, 18:03

Ali, I don’t know about the speed but my guess is that voice over ip on gprs in pakistan will be slow, as none of the carrier is on 3G, you can try when you come all unlimited are both for pc (through a gprs device) and phone.
a better option would be to bring one of those usb phones and get a better dsl connection

Well done for your effort Qazi Atiq, I think ALL the service providers in Pakistan should learn a thing or two from you. It was getting very frustrating to see rubbish posted on most of the major service providers main websites instead of information like their rates, services and packages. This page proved to be a great help for a person like me who resides abroad. Kudos for your commendable effort again, brilliant work and Thank you.

Zong is not that bad. Its good within the price limit. Surely workable. 200/2gb is not expensive. According to price, service is quite ok.

well i have used zong in gilgit hunza along kkh and skardu road n its best avail service here! n speed is also gud … if ur in edge zone it goes as high as 21k(connecting my mobile with pc via bluetooth) …
apart from that … telenor is also great with edge but not economical if u have a prepaid sim! …
overall every gprs service depends on its coverage …

AOA……. i m using ZONG Gprs service 2gb data volume in 200 rupees on iPhone 3……and i highly recommend you not to use this network…it literally sucks……Difference between EDGE and GPRS is GPrs is 2.5 Generation technology with okay data speed whereas EDGE is gateway to 3G technology which is UMTS,EDGE is 2.75 with better data speed with better data rate 348 kbps… but that is ideal it uses 8 timeslots….sorry its going complex…just for easiness, keep this next to edge is 3g technology which is mostly deployed in modern countries and developed one…soon 4g LTE will launch, its in experimental stage
so making long story short…in current situation in Pakistan only telenor is EDGE coverage….dont go for ZONG…i used it so i know how it works,,,it works good where there are free slots available, less number of users, good signal strength otherswise it freaks you out

Mohammad Haris, i just called telenor customer service, they are saying for now as of 14-01-2012 telenor internet is running on GPRS only in Lahore, i am not sure which city are you in. They will soon run it on Edge but no dates for sure.
Telenor internet speed might be great as its internet is the most expensive as compared to other operators so mostly likely where ever you are in city you most likely are the only user or may be a couple of other users :)  using GPRS internet with good speed.

Haris your feedback will be highly appreciated if you can answer following

which city are you using telenor internet ?
have you done a speed test ? using some apps in iphone or Andriod ?
have you tried video or voice chat ?

    Thanks

  • 28 January, 2012, 9:03
